    Biography

    Gavin is a highly rated and multi-award-winning English Barrister specialising in commercial dispute resolution, professional discipline and public law. He is also an experienced arbitrator and mediator with distinguished accreditations from the world’s leading institutions. He has multifaceted expertise across several practice areas covering international commercial litigation, arbitration, sports and regulatory law.

    Gavin’s commercial practice has a focus on international commercial arbitration. He advises international corporations and often acts as part of large multi-jurisdictional legal teams as led or sole counsel in complex commercial disputes involving parties from Africa, Asia and the Middle East. He represents clients in disputes administered by the DIFC or under the LCIA, SCC, ICC, SIAC and UNCITRAL rules, and also has experience with advising and acting in post-award matters at the annulment and enforcement stages.

    His sports law practice spans multiple sports and has a prominent client list including a Commonwealth Games medallist, several Olympic athletes and European Football Clubs. Gavin represents also has extensive experience representing sports governing bodies, agents before a range of domestic and international tribunals and courts, including the Court of Arbitration for Sport and FIFA, the Premier League, EFL and FA. He also handles anti-doping, integrity and governance matters and sits as the arbitral chair for a number of sports governing bodies.

    Gavin’s public law practice focuses on creating immigration solutions for high-net-worth individuals and businesses moving their families or operations to the U.K. In addition, Gavin is regularly instructed by solicitors and general counsel to help businesses become licensed sponsors and he advises on maintaining A-rated status with the Home Office. He brings a unique perspective from his work as counsel instructed by the Home Office and Government Legal Department at every tier of the court and tribunal system.

    • Rights of audience before the Astana International Finance Centre Court in Kazakhstan, FIFA Dispute Resolution Chamber and Abu Dhabi Global Market in the UAE and is working towards further admission in Scotland.
    • Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and empanelled on numerous international arbitral institutions such as the Court of Arbitration for Art, the World Intellectual Property Organisation, Qatar Sports Arbitration Foundation and the Mauritian Arbitration Centre.
    • CEDR and CMC Mediator empanelled with the World Intellectual Property Organisation.

    Recent Experience

    • Represented the Claimant in a £50 million dispute between two forex trading houses.
    • Advised a Saudi Arabian national on a claim involving several umbrella companies in the UAE and unfulfilled construction tenders.
    • Advised on jurisdiction in a UNCITRAL arbitration concerning breach of a guarantor agreement for sums loaned to state-owned entities in the Middle East.
    • Advised on a substantial section 67 Arbitration Act 1996 appeal regarding whether or not the tribunal had jurisdiction to hear the case.
    • Rule K Football Arbitration between two EFL Football Clubs concerning whether a ‘Sell-on Fee’ was due.
    • Court of Arbitration of Sport contractual dispute between two Premier European Football Clubs involving allegations of fraud.
